BeansTalk at Toa Payoh

Saw this promotion of a popular dessert at S$2.

It comes with green beans, red bean, crunchy peanut toppings along with yam, sweet potato and green tea mochi on laid on glass jelly and soya bean curd.

Personally I think the peanut was a sticking out sore because it's too hard with all the soft chewy neighbours so should have skipped that.Taste wise I might still like Blackball's version more.

Chin Lee Restaurant, Bedok

Blk 115 Bedok North Road, Singapore.
Supposedly popular for Teochew cuisine and lots of good reviews from Bedok residents.
Value for money and the staff is well prep to give recommendations if you ask.

Veg - Nai Bai stir fried with garlic.
Sweet and sour pork, pork was tender and marinated before they did the stir frying with ketchup which makes the meat more yummilicious.
Braised duck meat with tofu.
Cantonese-style steamed Soon Hock fish - good for 9 pax. Fish was fresh so little fishy smell...
"Paper-wrapped" chicken, the chestnuts were tasty and the sweet peas added some greenery to the entire dish
"Yam Ring" - making this well comes with skill. The ring must not crack and it has to have a good proportion of yam and flour. The added toppings in the ring gives the dish color and flavour.
Chilli prawns - prawns were coated with corn flour and fried before stir fried with chilli sauce and some other condiments.
The Orr-nee or Yam paste is a popular dessert of this restaurant so we ordered a small portion to share. The bill came up to about S$200++ for 9 of us.

Victor's Kitchen, Sunshine Plaza, Bugis

http://www.hungrygowhere.com/singapore/victor_s_kitchen/ Located in Sunshine Plaza and only open at 10am from Tues to Sun. Like most dim sum place you get a list to fill in before the staff comes over and it is a test of patience too. For the value, you probably need to bear with the small space by sitting shoulder to shoulder with a stranger and staff probably needs some time to acknowledge your calling.

Carrot cake presented differently with some condiments and sauce on top.
Vegetable and quail egg siew mai, but perhaps the regular siewmai is better? We wanted to try something different so we picked this unusual item.

Crispy Golden Prawn Rolls, best finished when piping hot!
Iced milk tea served with ice bath so as to not dilute the milk tea but if you find it too sweet for your taste you could pop in a few ice cubes into the drink.
Century egg porridge, the ever-comfort food. The portion of century eggs and minced pork are well balanced.
Glutinous rice, a light fragrance of the lotus leaves when unwrapped. I thought this was so-so for my liking.
Fried wonton, another so-so item which is a bit expensive $3 for 3 pieces.
Fried shrimp dumplings, this is quite tasty but a tad expensive too.
Cheong Fun was nice, smooth and silky but not the best we have tried.

Surely a must try - salted egg custard bun. The custard oozes out and the flavour was superb. Limited pieces per day so definitely a must order once you get seated.
